PART-TIME OPTIONS

As an innovative Charter School, Liberty Academy offers a variety of educational opportunities. Part-time families have many available options to partner with Liberty in educating their children. Whether you choose distance learning, virtual academic support, electives on campus, or a one, two, or three day program, we want to help you design the perfect educational setting for your children. As a publicly funded charter school, students taking core classes will need to participate in state testing and meet an attendance requirement for Liberty to maintain our funding. Feel free to ask questions about developing a personal family education plan at options@libertyacademycs.org. Following is a brief overview of the programs presently available:

Hi-Tech High
Hi-Tech High is a great option for older students with a particular interest in computers and technology. Hi-Tech High has selected Liberty Academy’s solid Core curriculum program to help students excel in Math, English, Science and History, while pursuing an interest in computers and technology. At no cost to you, this program will support what you’re already doing with your student outside the classroom and engage him/her in a curriculum with offerings such as Online Game Design, 3D Art Modeling, Flash Animation, Digital Video Production, Photography & Graphic Design, Website Creation, C++ Programming, iPhone/Facebook applications, Project CEO and more! Different courses are offered each semester based on availability. See www.hitechhigh.com for more information.

OPTIONS Program
In its second year, the OPTIONS program offers wonderful opportunities to part-time students. Offered on Tuesdays or Fridays, these courses are intended to enrich and support the core curriculum parents are already offering their students outside of school. These classes are taught by talented, like-minded individuals who engage the students in hands-on projects and lessons.

Students have the opportunity to be with other part-time students and enjoy a wide variety of choices such as Home Economics, Historical Connections, Shakespeare, Spanish, Creative Writing, and Computer Lab. Additionally, students may benefit from Fine Arts courses such as private/group Piano lessons, Art, Choir, Dance, Music Explorers and Readers’ Theater, as well as several Sports classes with Liberty’s P.E. teacher. Though parents are allowed to participate in the classroom, Liberty Academy provides a parent waiting room (with a private playground) for them to take their smaller children and attend to their needs while the older ones enjoy their classes. Parents are not required to stay and many have found it to be a good day to get errands accomplished.

Other opportunities exist outside of Tuesdays and Fridays. For instance, students may attend Band and Strings classes as well as other electives. On Thursdays, students in grades 7-9 are encouraged to join in on electives offered to Liberty’s full-time students, which include Polynesian Dance, Outdoor Leadership, Jui Jitsu, Basketball, Speech and Debate, Choir, Chinese language/culture, etc. The OPTIONS program is a great extension of learning outside the classroom, offering interaction with like-minded people in a safe and fun environment.

MAP Classes
Another great educational option is Liberty Academy’s Multi-Age Program classes. These classes meet three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for the entire school day (8:45-3:00 PM). There are two MAP classes currently: Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6. The teachers of these courses offer their students integrated learning combining the feel of instruction outside of school with the structure of a classroom. Students of various ages within a classroom have unique contributions to offer each other as they work together in their learning. Core instruction is offered in this program, although the parent is considered the primary educator.

PT 10th-12th Grade Humanities Seminar
Taught by Greg Duffin, this course consists of highly motivated students pursuing interest in History and the Arts. Music plays a large role in Mr. Duffin’s class, with his vast experience in music composition. The students have created a professional-quality choir within their class time together. This class meets Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday. Students are frequently found doing in-depth research and writing for presentation to the class. This is a college-prep course which will challenge students particularly interested in History and the Arts.
